Marvel Rumored to be Developing an ‘Illuminati’ Project

With the Marvel Studios production machine starting to ramp back up after a few months of being shut down, there are a lot of things being put into development and early stages of production. We’ve been hearing some things over the last couple of months, and today brings a new one.

According to The Illuminerdi, Marvel Studios has begun development of some kind of project based on the Illuminati team from the comics. Much like Ultimatum, this comes from casting information and as Illuminerdi explains these often will just show the title and the fact that Kevin Feige is producing it. That means there’s no way to tell if this is a movie or a Disney+ show, but with the way Marvel Studios is producing things now the lines between those are really becoming blurred.

In the comics the Illuminati consisted of Tony Stark, Professor X, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Namor, and Reed Richards. All of those are possible in the MCU, and since Tony is dead they could have someone like Black Panther take his place.

When all we have is the title and Feige as a producer to go by it’s hard to speculate exactly what form this will take in the MCU, although it’s possible it could be a Disney+ series involving these characters protecting the MCU from the scale of threats that S.H.I.E.L.D. and S.W.O.R.D. can’t handle. A bunch of big-name characters sitting around a table and pulling the MCU’s strings is the sort of thing that would work better as an episodic series as opposed to a movie.

Again, this seems to be very early, but it’s exciting to see that despite Phase 4 being delayed a little bit Marvel Studios is still charging ahead with their future.
