Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Wasn’t Affected by the MCU Slate Shift

Even though it doesn’t have an official release date yet, it appears as if the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie wasn’t affected by the shifting of the entire MCU slate due to the coronavirus pandemic.

James Gunn confirmed that the recent changing of release dates didn’t affect the third Guardians today via a Tweet:

In a later reply he also confirmed that even though the date hasn’t been announced, he knows where the movie falls in the schedule.

It’s most likely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has the May 2023 date. Prior to the James Gunn situation that caused the 2020 movies to go from three to two (now just one), Guardians 3 was set for the May 2020 date that Black Widow was just delayed from. Following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releasing in May 2017, the franchise is now one of the big May ones, meaning it makes sense for them to give it the May 2023 date.
