Long suspected to be on the way due to the MCU introducing the Time Variance Authority, one of the biggest villains in the Marvel Universe is coming to the big screen.
Today it was confirmed that Marvel Studios has cast Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conquerer in Ant-Man 3.
While Kang has been an Avengers villain in the comics and debuted in an Avengers comic, his Richards family name and connections to Apocalypse made Fox firmly claim him as one of their characters; meaning that until Disney bought Fox he was someone off limits to Marvel Studios. This also means that Kang is easily the biggest Fox character to officially be used by Marvel Studios, even though we know they’re going to set up Doom, the Fantastic Four are coming, and we’re going to start seeing Mutants (and Mutant nations) very soon.
Deadline reported that Kang is one of the villains in the movie, which means there could be more. In Paul Rudd’s initial Ant-Man 3 script, M.O.D.O.K. appeared, although it’s not known if he survived to the current version of the movie. There is some speculation out there that M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M. will appear elsewhere in the MCU; possibly one of the Disney+ series such as She-Hulk. M.O.D.O.K. is definitely on the way in the MCU, as Marvel Studios took him away from Marvel Television Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began to set him up in Season 4 and then had to change plans due to the movie studio wanting to use him.
Even without M.O.D.O.K., Ant-Man 3 is shaping up to be a pretty epic entry in the MCU with Kang the Conquerer finally making his way to the big screen.
