Thank You Chris Evans For the Best Cap We Could’ve Asked For

This morning Chris Evans made an announcement that has fans fearing for the fate of Captain America in next year’s Avengers 4. With reshoots underway in Atlanta, Evans announced via Twitter that he had wrapped playing the character he did so perfectly for the past eight year. Now, to soothe some fears I don’t necessarily mean that Cap is going to die in Avengers 4, but it could mean he is retired in such a way that we won’t see Chris in the spangly outfit again for a long time. There’s a lot more I want to say about this, so here’s his Tweet first:

Whatever happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man.

From the moment we first saw Chris Evans shrunken via CGI in Captain America: The First Avenger and little Steve dived on that grenade, it was obvious that Marvel found the right guy to be the moral anchor of the MCU. I still remember how impressed I was watching that movie for the first time and seeing how perfectly Evans understood Steve Rogers. Cap is a character that would be easy for someone to get really wrong, even into camp levels, but Chris Evans understood the core of what made Cap was that good man of Steve Rogers, and everything Captain America is builds off that.

The reason why the Captain America movie trilogy is easily the best three-movie story in the MCU is because Marvel found the perfect Captain America in Chis Evans. One can’t imagine anyone else in the role now.

In his Tweet above Chris thanks the audience. Marvel fans also owe him a huge thank you for giving us the best Captain America we could’ve asked for.
