Fans who have followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe and pay attention to what Kevin Feige says in interviews may remember him last year talking about how the original Robocop is going to influence future movies in the franchise. With the release of the Captain Marvel trailer today, we now know what movie he was talking about in that interview.
It happened in an interview with Vanity Fair, where Kevin Feige explained they have a movie that is utilizing the lessons learned from Robocop:
“No, but RoboCop is a good example. RoboCop is almost a perfectly structured movie. We do have a movie that’s utilizing that. The lessons learned from that structure in good ways. It’s not a robot person, though.”
If you’re familiar with the story of Robocop and how amnesia plays into it, that opens up some very interesting things for where Marvel can take the story of Captain Marvel. In fact, such things would be very unexpected and almost shocking if people were to be spoiled on them this far in advance, so I won’t go into that just yet.
But, the amnesia angle and Robocop inspiration should give you the hint that Marvel is giving Carol Danvers a much different origin in the MCU…
